I know exactly what you are talking about. Why won t 651 vinyl stick to my canvas or wood. It was a week or a month later and my artwork was still sticky. Same thing with wood.

If your vinyl surface is clean the paint or primer will adhere to the vinyl rather than the dirt and you will have a longer lasting finish. I ve never tried heat transfer vinyl but to be honest i don t know why i d bother. It has happened to me more than once at different times of the year so it isn t the humidity or the tempe. I m using oracal 631 vinyl.

You can also use a primer between the vinyl and the paint. Unless you plan on using a peel stopping primer. Be sure your vinyl is clean before applying paint by washing it with soap and water and rinsing well. My problem is that the vinyl is peeling the paint off underneath. If there is any grease dirt dust or other substances on your metal surface the paint and primer wonâ t bond properly. I couldn t believe my eyes either.
